Create an instance

Pick an address, a plan and a billing period, then pay to start the setup of your Metis Suite instance.

An instance is your own Metis Suite at its own address. You create it in the console, pay through Dodo Payments, and Metis Cloud sets it up for you.

Before you start, confirm the email address of your Metis Cloud account. You cannot create an instance until you do. See Create an account.

Open New instance

On the Instances page, click New instance. When you have no instances yet, the button is in the middle of the page.

The New instance page says “Pick an address and a plan. Setup starts on its own once you have paid.”

Pick an address

In Address, type the first part of your instance’s address, for example acme. The end, .metis-suite.app, is fixed. Your instance will be at acme.metis-suite.app.

An address has 3 to 40 lowercase letters, digits or hyphens. It cannot start or end with a hyphen. Capitals become lowercase as you type, and spaces become hyphens.

As you type, the console checks whether the address is free. When it is, you see “acme.metis-suite.app is available.” When it is not, you see why:

Message What it means
“That name is already taken.” Another instance uses this address.
“That name is reserved.” The address is kept for the service. This includes common names such as www, mail, admin and support, and any name that contains metis.
“A name cannot have hyphens in the third and fourth positions.” Names such as ab--shop are not allowed.

A taken address becomes free again when its instance is deleted, or when an unpaid instance is released.

Pick a plan

Under Plan, choose Personal or Team. Personal is for one person’s mail. Team has about three times the memory and CPU of Personal. Both plans include the same AI each month.

See Plans and prices for what each plan costs.

Pick a billing period

Under Billing, choose Monthly or Yearly. You can switch the billing period later, on the instance’s Billing tab. See Switch your billing period.

Check the summary and pay

The Summary card on the right shows your Address, Plan, Billing and the Total. It says “You pay on the next page, through Dodo Payments.”

Click Continue to payment. The button works only once the address shows as available.

You go to the Dodo Payments checkout page. You enter your card details only on that page.

Wait for setup

After you pay, Dodo Payments sends you back to your new instance’s Overview tab. Setup starts on its own, and usually takes a few minutes.

When the setup is done, the Overview shows your setup code. Continue with Finish setup.

If the payment could not be started

If you see “Payment could not be started. Try again in a few minutes.”, your address may already be reserved for you. Look on the Instances page for an instance with the status Awaiting payment.

If it is there, do not start a new instance with the same address, because the console says “That name is already taken.” Open that instance instead, and click Continue to payment on its Overview tab.

Unpaid instances

An instance you have not paid for has the status Awaiting payment. Its Overview shows Waiting for payment: “This address is reserved for you. Unpaid instances are released after 24 hours.”

  • To pay, click Continue to payment.
  • If you do not pay, the instance is removed after 24 hours. It disappears from Instances, and its address is free again.
  • You cannot change the billing period of an unpaid instance. To pick another period, let it be released and create a new instance.
