Desktop app
Sign in to your Metis Suite server from the desktop app, and set how the app starts, downloads files and checks spelling.
The Metis Suite desktop app opens your Metis Suite server in its own window, on macOS, Windows and Linux. Everything you can do in the browser works in the app, with a few extras such as a tray icon and a downloads folder.
Metis Suite does not publish app downloads. Get the app from the person who runs your Metis Suite server.
Enter your server address
The first time you open the app, it shows “Connect to your Metis
Mail server”. Type the address you use in the browser into Server
address, for example https://mail.example.com, and click
Continue.
The address must start with https://. If the app shows “No Metis
server answered at” your address, or “Could not reach that server.”,
check the address with the person who runs your server.
Sign in with your browser
Click Sign in with browser. Your usual browser opens. Sign in there as you normally do, with your password and your two-factor code.
The app waits and says “Finish signing in in your browser. This window updates on its own.” If you closed the browser tab, click Open the browser again.
Confirm in the browser
The browser shows Sign in to the Metis app, with the account you are signed in as. Click Continue as your email address, or Use a different account. Continue only if you started signing in from the app yourself.
Go back to the app
The browser shows Back to the app and opens Metis Suite. If the app does not open on its own, click Open Metis.
The app has its own sign-in, separate from your browser. Signing out in the browser does not sign the app out, and signing out of the app does not sign the browser out.
If the browser says Set up two-factor first, your account has no two-factor authentication yet. Follow Set up two-factor authentication, then start again from the app. If it says Link not valid, start signing in again from the app.
What works in the app
- All of Metis Suite: mail, calendar, drive, the assistant and workflows, just as in the browser.
- Connecting accounts: connecting a Google, Microsoft or Zoho account opens your browser, then returns to the app.
- Links to other websites open in your browser.
- Downloads ask where to save, or go straight to a folder you choose in the app settings. Google Drive downloads open in your browser.
- Printing and viewing a message’s original source stay in the app.
- When you go offline, the window title says so. The app shows You’re offline and reconnects when your network comes back. If your network works but the server does not answer, it shows Can’t reach the server. Click Try again to check.
- The app remembers its window size and position. With Open where you left off on, it reopens the last page you had open.
